Overview

From the heights of the Tibetan Plateau, the mighty Mekong flows through six countries, giving life and a home to millions of people. For this, it was once named “Mother of all rivers”. After a journey of 4,350 km (2,700 miles) it reaches the Pacific Ocean.

Itinerary

Option 1: Cruise from Cai Be to Can Tho with a visit to Cai Rang Floating Market
Option 1: Cruise from Cai Be to Can Tho with a visit to Cai Rang Floating Market

In the afternoon you can disembark for a guided leisurely stroll through a village and the surrounding fruit orchards or rice fields. Meet the friendly locals and taste the local produce and fruits.

Get back on board and enjoy a drink at the bar or relax on deck as the sun sets over the magnificent water landscape of the Mekong river. The cruise boat will anchor for the night. The day ends with a delicious on-board dinner. You stay overnight on board on your compfortable river cruiser.

On day 2 you wake up well rested to the sound of the river and get ready for another exciting day of sightseeing in the Mekong Delta. At 6.30h the cruise vessel sets off for a sunrise cruise. Watch the locals go about their daily work drying exotic fruits and building ships on the wooden yards while enjoying an early breakfast.

After breakfast, we will board a sampan boat to Cai Rang floating market, the region’s busiest and most lively markets. Marvel at the sheer abundance of exotic fruits, vegetables and skilfully handcrafted regional products. We will pull up to the boats for talking and bargaining with the merchants. After the excursion to the market it is time to start the journey back to Saigon. From Can Tho we travel by road back to Saigon. In My Tho you say good by to the Mekong Delta with a lunch break offering typical Mekong Delta dishes at Mekong Rest Stop.

Meals day 1: lunch, dinner; day 2: breakfast, lunch

N. B.: The floating markets in the Mekong Delta are no tourist markets but wholesale markets where produce of the Mekong Delta like fruits and vegetables are traded. For this reason the number of boats on the market fluctuates depending on harvesting seasons and market demand. Furthermore, modern wholesale markets are becoming more popular in Vietnam. This can result in decreasing numbers of boats being present on the markets.

This tour is available on all even dates (e.g. Sept. 2, 4, 10 etc.) on Mekong Eyes Classic, every Tuesday on Mekong Eyes Explorer and daily on our Gecko Eyes and Dragon Eyes Cruisers.

Option 2: Cruise from Can Tho to Cai Be with a sampan excursion

Our classic route. After the transfer from Saigon to Can Tho we receive you with a refreshing welcome drink and show you our on-board facilities and your cosy cabin. While you enjoy lunch, the boat starts cruising. Sit back and watch the fantastic scenery and the daily life of the Mekong people.

My mom and I were traveling around Vietnam for three weeks and to highlight our trip we went to the Mekong Delta with “Mekong Eyes Cruise”. That was such a great decision. We were a group of 18 people, mostly from Australia, really friendly and the tour guides were so cute to us. We did a lot of things but we weren’t tired, it was so comfortable. The rooms and the whole boot seemed to be new. And the food was the best of it all! We made some spring rolls by our own, so delicious.

Where to start: Everything was Great about our 2 days cruise with Mekong Eyes. We got picked from our hotel on time. Yes, not all drivers speak Basic English, but its Vietnam. We board the cruise and got welcomed by Julie. I call her Super Julie because for the rest of the cruise/activities/dinners/lunches/breakfast/ she was there to ensure we didn't miss anything. The food was delicious every time and there was plenty for everyone. The activities were very interesting: visit of small villages and encounter with local people was amazing. the bike tour, the cooking class, and the floating market were awesome. Before each one, Jing or Super Julie would brief us and explain what was the plan. Overall, worth every penny :-). We were lucky to spend Christmas eve on the boat and the team surprised us with Bubble and treats to celebrate Xmas (nice touch and wasn't part of the deal). Overall, one of the best experience by far we had in Vietnam and we will come back for sure. On the way back to our hotel, no one told the driver that lunch was included at our stop, but a quick call to Mekong Eyes and everything was cleared. Last, a very special thanks to the rest of the crew who spent the entire time babysitting us and ensuring we didn't miss anything. Thank you Maika, Nhi, Hoa and Bao.
